Stuff about Marcus:

• exorcist since the age of 12 (is now about 53)
• was a Catholic priest for most of his life
• got kicked out of the priesthood for fighting
• still faithful! still excommunicated. still sad.
• lives in his truck, owns like 3 worldly possessions, has dumpster-dived for food and will do it again
• likes: leather jackets, stick-n-poke tattoos, soul music, God, travel, casting out demons, kids
• dislikes: the Church but it's complicated, demons who won't be cast out, the pervading and unshakeable guilt that dogs him
• fears: his own violent tendencies, What If God Doesn't Love Him

How he behaves:

• dry, wry, funny; this can be either warm and gentle ribbing, or sneering mockery
• once the humour is gone, he dips into terrifying sincerity: completely comfortable looking into someone's eyes and telling them God loves them and has a plan for them
• tactile, tends to grab people when having deep conversations, gets into people's space when trying to be intimidating, if he likes you he'll kind of pat you or squeeze your shoulder whenever he's close to you
• body language is usually expansive, slightly camp, restless, taking up space & moving/sprawling/fidgeting: rarely still
• grew up with no sense of personal property and also is incapable of leaving any question unanswered, accordingly he's a nosy prick with a skill for lockpicking and will very happily read your diary/letters/go through your cupboards looking for food
• cries all the goddamn time. happy? crying. sad? crying. thinking about God? CRYING

Stuff I'd rather not play: no sexual violence pls (in-character discussions which touch on it are possible, but I need warning & probably to chat about it beforehand), not interested in playing out abusive behaviours but very happy to have characters discuss stuff like abusive histories. not interested in Marcus being 'proved wrong' about his religion or w/e because that's not really how his faith works (but very interested in having discussions about religion, faith and belief!)
Warnings: Marcus is from a very abusive home and witnessed/had to defend himself against attempted domestic murder at a very young age. he was also brought up in the Catholic church, and the Catholic church is terrible. 

also his job is to be an exorcist and it looks very bad and has all the trappings of a horrible misuse of power. I am cool with characters registering this, btw (and love playing out conflict about it), just flagging it as a central part of his character in case you as a player would rather not interact.

Shipping/smut stuff that seems relevant in memes

• Marcus is either gay or bisexual with a v strong preference for men (as in like...he doesn't know, I don't know, I don't think he uses those terms or is very sure at all about what's happening except 'men...good'). his relationship to his sexuality is not as Catholic as it could be in that he's no longer in complete about it. still, he's not ever gotten used to actually using words like 'gay' and he feels sort of wistful towards this community that he's never had. he's sadly pressing his nose up against the window of the 'here, queer, get used to it' scene, basically. he also grew up in a v homophobic environment/culture and is accordingly...a mix of wary and defiant.
• I play Marcus as either never having had sex or as having a few brief and sort of awkward encounters with other men, all of them since he was kicked out of the priesthood. never broke his vows, well done Marcus.
• he's not gonna sleep with anyone under ehhh mid to late twenties? and lmao that's still within the Guilt Zone. but yeah, the closer to his age the more comfortable/likely to be attracted to someone he'll be
